Topic: The Useful Myth of the Obama Campaign

The Obama campaign was considered “web 2.0” applied to politics, a bottom-up user-generated network. The truth is a lot more complicated, and in many ways I think we can fairly call the Obama campaign the first top-down campaign of the 21st century, rather than something more transformative. The contrast between hope and reality is instructive and useful, however, to all of us trying for a more expansive, participatory, accountable practice of politics.
